KGSA 란?

KGSA는 Albany 소재 뉴욕주립대학에 재학중인 한인 대학원생을 대표하는 단체로서, 석,박사 과정의 모든 한인 학생, 교수 그리고 가족들을 회원으로 하고 있으며, 회원 및 회원 가족들간의 친목도모, 정보교류는 물론, 타학생단체와 지역 community와의 원활한 교류를 통해 보다 즐거운 유학생활과 서로 돕는 유학 분위기를 조성하는데 목적이 있습니다. 회원은 연회비(미혼 $15, 기혼 $20)납부의 의무가 있으며, 관심과 참여를 통해 값진 경험과 혜택을 받으실 수 있습니다.

GSO와 연관되는 몇가지 사실을 말씀드리도록 하겠습니다. 대학원생으로서 여러분들은 학교에 등록금을 낼 때에 $15의  GSO fee를 내십니다. 이렇게 모아진 돈은 GSO가 활동할 수 있는데에 모두 쓰여집니다. GSO 사무실비 (e.g. rent to the University), 사무실 staff payment, office supply 등등 GSO에 들어가는 무수한 지출을 비롯, GSO가 하고 있는 큰 두개의 사업 -- GSO grant와 RGSO 자금 -- 에 쓰여지고 있습니다. GSO grant는 여러분도 아시다시피 research & travel grant로 논문에 필요한 돈을 신청하는 학생들중에서 선택하여 지급하는 것입니다. RGSO 자금 (Recognized Graduate Student Organization funding)이란 말 그대로 recognized된 대학원생 단체 (최소멤버수 5명) 가 활동을 하는데 주어지는 돈입니다. 저희 한인학생회도 이 RGSO의 대상중의 하나입니다.  

RGSO에서 주어지는 돈은 그 사항이 무척 제안되어있습니다.  

The GSO RGSO funding supports direct costs for the following:

- Educational events (e.g. speakers, films, workshops, roundtables)

- Cultural events (e.g.speakers, performances, art, workshops, panels)

- Professional events (e.g. workshops, creation/maintaining publications,

conferences sponsored by the organization)

 The GSO will NOT fund the following:

- Potlucks (anything where food is the focus)

- Alcoholic beverages

- conferences that are not sponsored by the organization

- Social programming

- Orientation/ welcoming parties

- Departmental/ Organizational parties 

무엇보다도 중요한 것은 RGSO 자금을 받을경우에는 GSO를 통해서 광고가 되어야하고 모든 대학원생들이 대상이 되어야 한다는 것입니다. 이번해에는 RGSO자금은 모두 30,000불이며 30개의 단체가 이 자금을 신청할 수 있습니다. 참고로, 작년 학생회선거때 GSO fee를 $20으로 올리자는 안건이 나왔으나 통과되지는 않았습니다. 더해지는 $5은 RGSO자금과 GSO grant로 나누어질 예정이었다고 합니다.  

막연하게 모두 GSO에서 지원을 받을수 있다는 몇몇 선입견과는 다른 사실이어서 여러분들에게 알려야겠다는 생각을 하였습니다. 안타깝게도 저희가 늘 가지는 행사들은 지원을 받을 수 있는 성격의 행사들이 아닙니다. 그 중 몇가지 이용을 할 수 있는 내용은 복사는 GSO사무실에서 자유로이 할 수 있다는 것과 저희가 하는 지출들이 tax exemption이 된다는 것이었습니다. 물론 이것은 미리 계획을 한 지출이어야만 가능한 것이겠지요.  

여러분들이 내시는 회비로 우리학생회의 사업들이 이루어진다는 것을 기억해주시고 한명도 빠짐없이 회비를 내어주시기 바랍니다. 이번해에는 꼭 수입 지출 내역과, 여러분의 큰 반대가 없으시다면, 회비납부의 여부를 여러분들에게 알리도록 하겠습니다. (2002년 자료)

What is KGSA?                                                                                     

KGSA (Korean Graduate Student Association) in SUNY at Albany is a voluntary organization representing Korean students in graduate studies. Members of KGSA include all level of full-time/part-time graduate students, faculty members, visiting or exchange scholars and students, and their families. The purposes of KGSA are to foster friendship and social interactions among Korean graduate students and other graduate students of SUNY at Albany, and to provide opportunities of better academic life to its members and better understanding of Korean cultures to other students and communities. KGSA is now constantly updating its web-site and organizational structure thanks to loving help of all members.
